About the Participant

Prof. Dr. Svitlana Sokolova – Head of the Department in the Institute of the Ukrainian Language of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Prof. Dr. Sokolova’s research contributions include her PhD thesis on prefixal word formation of a verb in Russian (1983) and her habilitation on the system of Ukrainian prefix verbs word formation (2004).

Published monographs:

  • “Semantics and stylistics of the Russian verb” (1988, in co-authorship with N. Shumarova);
  • “Prefix word formation of verbs in the modern Ukrainian” (2003);
  • “Aspectual categories of the Ukrainian verb” (2021).
  • S.O. Sokolova is the editor-in-chief and co-author of a number of collective monographs published on the website of the Institute of the Ukrainian Language of the NAS of Ukraine:
  • “Territorial and socio-cultural conditions for the functioning of the Ukrainian language in Ukraine” (2023),

She participated in international scientific projects funded by the Volkswagen Foundation “Bi- and multilingualism between conflict intensification and conflict resolution. Ethno-linguistic conflicts, language politics and contact situations in post-Sоviet Ukraine and Russia (2016-2019), “Contested Language Diversity – Dealing with Minority Languages ​​in post-Soviet Ukraine” (2020-2023).

He is a member of the Commission on Aspectology and the Commission on Sociolinguistics of the International Committee of Slavists.
